Always
start by taking
a detailed inventory list of your possessions. Use this list
with multiple moving companies to receive "apples to
apples quotes".
Be
wary of quotes
that seem too good to be true. Since local moves are charged according
to the time the move actually takes, choosing a company based on the
lowest estimate of hours will not save money.
All
movers charge
higher rates during weekends and at the end and beginning of the month.
To reduce cost, try to schedule your move on a weekday during the
middle of the month.
If your employer is covering your relocation costs, find out the
allowed budget and what specific services will be covered. Often
compensation for services such as packing and storage is allowed.
If
you are moving long
distance, make sure that the company you choose is licensed by
the DOT and not just subcontracting your move to a company who is.
